Your Path to FiT—Women in Trades and Technology

Getting started is easier than you think. Here's what your path to the program looks like.

Registration through the Public Employment Service (AMS)

STEP 1

Please contact your AMS advisor and have them add you to the list.

Introduction to Expanding Your Horizons: "
" (6 weeks)

STEP 2

During this orientation phase, you’ll gain insight into various career paths, computer skills, mathematics, and job application training. You’ll also have the opportunity to complete your first few days of an internship and try your hand at a hands-on technical workshop.

Continuation with the basic certification course "
" (12 weeks)

STEP 3

During this training phase, you will have the opportunity to refresh your knowledge in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Through hands-on workshops in metalwork, woodworking, electrical systems, and technical drawing/CAD, you can expand and deepen your skills. Internships give you the chance to gain a better understanding of various professions.

What does FiT stand for?

FiT stands for Women in Trades and Technology and is a program of the Public Employment Service (AMS).

What are the requirements for participating in the FiT program?

You must be registered with the AMS as unemployed or as a job seeker.

Who is the FiT program suitable for?

FiT is designed for women who are looking to change careers and want to explore or learn a trade or technical profession.

Do I need any prior knowledge of technology or trades?

No. No prior technical knowledge is required to participate. The FiT program is open to everyone, regardless of educational background or skill level.

How can I participate in the FiT program?

Registration is handled through the AMS. Please contact your AMS advisor.

How long does the FiT program last?

The program consists of a 6-week orientation phase and the option of a subsequent 12-week training phase.

What careers can I explore through the FiT program?

Over 200 occupations are supported. You can find an overview in the FiT list of apprenticeship occupations.

Is it possible to do internships as part of the FiT program?

Yes. The program includes short-term internships or longer-term workplace placements to give students hands-on experience with various professions.

Will I still be eligible for support through the FiT program even if a technical trade isn't my first choice?

Yes. The "Perspektivenerweiterung" program offers support with career guidance, learning, and job applications. You can also complete internship placements.

Will I receive any pay while I'm in FiT?

Yes. While participating in the FiT program, financial support is provided by the AMS.

Can I start an apprenticeship after completing the FiT program?

Yes. FiT provides targeted preparation for technical and vocational training.

- Intensive skilled worker training
- Traditional apprenticeships

What happens after the FiT program ends?

Together, we plan the next step—for example, starting an apprenticeship (either an accelerated or traditional program), pursuing further training, or, if this path turns out not to be the right fit, exploring other career options.
